Recording the flora of Surrey is central to the activities of the SBS and members are encouraged to record in their local area and submit their records for inclusion into our database. Plant records are documented using MapMate recording software and are co-ordinated with the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland. Training and support will be given to members that wish to use MapMate.
Members who do not use MapMate may submit records using the Excel recording spreadsheet which is designed to hold plant records in a format that enables them to be imported directly into MapMate. Using the spreadsheet also simplifies the checking of records prior to entry into the database. To use it and to read the instructions you will need a copy of Microsoft Office or compatible software. If you have any problems either opening or using the spreadsheet, please contact us and we will endeavour to help.

Our members past and present, either individually, in informal groups or at formal field meetings have currently amassed more than 950,000 records of over 3,000 taxa from Surrey's 2,108 monads. Although this may seem a huge number there are more than 400 rare plants recorded in Surrey for which we would like more records.

We are soon to publish a Rare Plant Register.
